AR15 Parts & Accessories

What are AR 15 Parts & Accessories?

AR15 parts and accessories for the AR 15 are products that either enhance the form or the function of your rifle. As an example, a lower parts kit would be strictly a functional AR15 part. Whereas, a Magpul MOE vertical grip in FDE is both functional as it improves your ergonomics and adds to the form of your gun not only because it looks cool but it’s in a popular and tactical color.

By exploring the world of aftermarket AR 15 parts, you open up the ability to change how your AR 15 rifle may feel, how it performs and what it looks like. Of course, by doing all of these things you become more accustomed to the gun and it gets customized to your specific taste and needs.

What accessories do I need for an AR 15?

Need and want is a pretty fine line to tow… let’s just say you probably need to first have as many AR15 magazines as possible. Then, get to work on the basic ergonomic upgrades. These AR15 parts may include things like butt stocks, pistol grips, vertical foregrips, handstops or extended controls for the rifle which all work to help you better manipulate and control the weapon. If you want to go the extra mile in your quest for upgraded rifle parts, look into lightweight handguards/rails to have an overall lighter build allowing you to use it for extended periods of time while keeping your stamina up.

You may also need an AR 15 optic appropriate for the types of shooting you plan on doing or the distances you plan on engaging your targets at. To improve your shooting experience and performance, you may want to take a look at some muzzle devices, different buffer weights and springs or aftermarket triggers that will have a lighter pull than mil-spec triggers and a more positive reset. If you need help choosing an AR15 buffer, check out our blog for a guide on that.

Are AR 15 Accessories Universal?

Several rifle parts and accessories are actually compatible with both the AR15 and AR10 platforms. Some rifle parts and accessories are not universal. For a comprehensive list of which AR 10 parts or accessories may or may not be compatible for the AR15, see our AR10 vs AR10 parts compatibility blog.

Can you legally build an AR 15?

Yes! It is legal to build your own AR15 in any state. The caveat here is that each individual state has different requirements to make your AR15 build above board and kosher. Some states have no restrictions on whether or not you build your AR 15 rifle using an 80% AR15 lower receiver. Other states like California have stringent rules such as requiring it to be registered with the state’s DOJ and it would also have to be “featureless” in order for it to be considered legal.
