How not to get rid of your guns

You all know the meme… "I lost my guns in a boating accident."

Well that's a far better idea than what the ATF was alerted to what someone did in Oklahoma City. There isn't much information besides what was found in the released search warrant but here's what we know so far.

According to the ATF, 236 imported shotguns were found in a dumpster after a sanitation worker reported them there. Apparently, they were marked as defects and the company owner was told to cut all affected guns into 3 sections to render them nonfunctional.

Once the ATF found the literal dumpster of shotguns, they discovered that many still had the ability to fire and were not rendered useless just yet. At least two shotguns were given away with no paperwork. As bad as it would be for you, the customer, if you bought a firearm from a gun store (assuming you are not exempt from a 4473) with no paperwork... It's 100 times worse for a business if the ATF sniffs that out - at least it's supposed to be.

It's difficult to imagine why the decision to get rid of these firearms in this fashion was made. Laziness? Ineptitude? Playing ball with the ATF requires jumping through a ton of hoops as an FFL. You can bet that the ATF will likely throw the book at the business owner. Or maybe not? After all, the ATF has been reported to give several passes to FFL's that they clearly knew were involved in illicit firearms trafficking

MSU Shooting - Where's the outrage

Students at Michigan State University experienced a tragic active shooter situation this week which resulted in the deaths of 3 students and 5 critically injured. At the end of the incident the shooter took his own life where a note was found on him. News reports and images of police mustering students to safety that night can be seen all over the internet.

As authorities attempt to understand why this happened or what the shooter's connection to MSU was, there apparently aren't any just yet. What's more, the ATF reported that the weapons found on the shooter were legally purchased, however, not registered... whatever that means.

You might be finding our title for this story a bit peculiar because of course, there's plenty of sadness to go around for this event. In fact, we'll probably soon see a line of “progressive” politicians riling up their constituents to disarm law abiding Americans. While they may preach about an abhorrent rise of mass shootings and gun violence and swear up and down that taking away everyone's guns is the only way to keep everyone else safe... that's really not what the data suggests.

Open Source Defense does a great job of explaining this — that when we talk about gun safety, we have to look at the numbers at scale. That means looking at how many shootings there are per capita of gun owning individuals in America - and there are millions of us. We've often shared Mother Jones mass shootings database as well as a proper example of unique and unbiased list of active shooter events that qualified as mass shootings.

Make no mistake, we're not trying to be reductionistic in belittling the amount of lives lost. Any amount of innocent lives lost is absolutely wrong, full stop. Our point is, why does the pro gun control crowd think that taking away more gun rights will reduce the likelihood of these events from happening again? It's delusional.

Where's our proof? Take a look at all these other places abroad in the world that are far more "progressive" than the United States when it comes to gun control - most of them have outright bans on private gun ownership. Yet, we have the shootings at the Beslan school in Russia, Utoya Island in Norway and the Attack on Paris which all occurred in cities that have more restrictive gun laws than in Chicago or even New York City. Where's the outrage for those shootings?

These scumbag, murdering cowards, whether at home or abroad, DO NOT care about any laws or restrictions in place. Their goal is to cause as much bodily harm as possible to whomever they see in order to fulfill a perverse desire they hold for themselves.

Consider this: schools and businesses love putting up gun free zone sighs. This shooter had zero issues violating school policy and harming those he came into contact with. Despite rules saying he was unable to do something he broke it anyway and now lawmakers are trying to expedite more gun control and weapons bans in the wake of those in pain and wanting a legal reaction to feel some semblance of justice or resolution.

Biden has already used this tragedy as another platform to continually raise his banner for a new assault weapons ban (now backed by a proposal for a $231M budget) which keep you or your loved ones safe. (As seen by the fact that they don't “deter” those willing to commit atrocities.) Remember friends, fear and control are powerful weapons and taking away your ability to protect your own family and those around you is a crime that only aids in hurting more future victims.

Federal court strikes down ban on 2A rights based on restraining order

More court battles over the right to purchase and own firearms have been occurring and this week we technically had a big win in the State of Kentucky.

In the court case United States of America v. Combs, the defendant was issued a restraining order in June of 2022 and purchased a handgun several days later and during that purchase did not list on his Form 4473 he had received a DVO (Domestic Violence Restraining Order).

This may not seem like a big deal however In 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(8), it is prohibited for individuals who are subject to a domestic restraining order to possess firearms or ammunition. And in 18 U.S.C. § 922(a)(6) it states you can not knowingly deceive or falsify any information when purchasing a firearm. (Even though Hunter Biden did the same thing in 2018, and got away with it).

The federal court in Kenucky ruled that, "while restraining orders can serve a legitimate purpose in protecting victims of domestic violence, prohibition on firearms possession goes too far and is overly broad," and held that this prohibition for individuals subject to domestic restraining orders was unconstitutional as it violated the 2nd Amendment.

While the case could potentially go all the way up to the Supreme Court, for now, it immediately sets a new precedent in the legal landscape for gun owners subject to domestic restraining orders in Kentucky, some future courts around the country in different court districts may also rule in the same way.

Whether that is a net positive or negative change on small communities remains to be seen. Comment below, to tell us what you think!

Quick Update on the ATF harassment of IWA.

The majority of you know of IWA International. For those of you unfamiliar, they import and export tactical gear worldwide. Recently, they have become a target of the ATF because IWA deals in “devices” that go bang. Smoke and flashbang style devices, to be exact which they import and sell globally to tactical units, police forces, and general consumers worldwide. (Honestly, they just make a very loud bang sound)

However, ATF has rescinded IWA’s SED (Special Explosive Device) application and has started a dispute with the company blocking them from bringing fully legal devices to the market and introducing general consumers to safe and effective uses of deterrents and tactical equipment you rarely get the chance to see and use as a civilian.

We salute IWA in their stance against the ATF and their tyrannical outreach. IWA has publicly stated that they plan on continuing their importation and exportation of legal devices that are used in a safe effective manner. Give them a peek and support another company standing up these federal agency bullies.
